I had the chance to meet with one of my hometown neighbors, Mary Campbell. Her interest in interior design started when she would shadow her grandmother while she was working on houses.
She graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Interior Design. After graduating she got offered a position at a firm in Nashville TN as a project designer at Casella Interiors for about four years. Recently her husband got a new job all the way in Texas, so Mary Campbell now works for a firm in Texas called Cross Architects. Her position at Cross is as an Interior Design Admin Assistant. Cross focuses more on commercial projects but also multifamily as well.
Mary Campbell mentioned to me how she struggled to adapt to working at an architecture firm because she worked strictly with interior designers for four years prior. One of her favorite things about working with architects is how everything is all under one roof, it's easier to communicate by walking across the building than by emailing and then waiting on a response. One of her favorite software is AutoCAD, she mentioned how she learns more tips and shortcuts the more project she works on. During the interview, she gave me the advice to learn as much as I can while in the program so I'm more prepared for going into the work field.
